Queen Latifah

Dana Elaine Owens better known by her stage name Queen Latifah, is an American rapper actress and singer. in film, music and television, Queen Latifah has received two Screen Actors Guild Awards (two Image Awards), a Grammy Award as well as six more Grammy nods and has been nominated for the Emmy Award. Queen Latifah was born in and raised in Newark New Jersey the daughter of Rita a schoolteacher who worked at Irvington High School and Lancelot Owens Jr. an officer in the police force. Latifah's parents divorced when she aged 10 years old. Latifah, who was born and brought up in Newark New Jersey attended Catholic school in Newark. Latifah refers to gentle and kind. Her mother gave it to her when she was aged eight. Latifah's height of 5'10" made her a powerful forward at high school. The song she performed was "Home" from The Wiz during a play at her highschool. Latifah was a beatboxer in her band, the Ladies Fresh rap band. Latifah became part of the Flavor Unit in its original version, made up of an MC team with producer DJ Mark The 45 King. Mark James, aka DJ Mark the45 King recorded the rap of Queen Latifah, aka Princess of the Posse. He gave it back to Yo! MTV Raps Freddy. Dante Ross, an employee of Tommy Boy Music who heard the song, and then signed Latifah in 1988 to release her first track Wrath of My Madness.
